Private Pilot Training Costs
35 Hours Dual Instruction ($175/hr)

*Costs are approximate and will vary according to each individual student. Students pay per hour and can fly as much as their budget will allow. Also ask one of our instructors about various finance options.

FAA Requirements and Expected Cost
The FAA regulations (Part 61: 14 CFR 61.109) for attaining a
Private Pilot Certificate are the following:
Be at least 17 years old
Be able to read, speak, write and understand the English language
Obtain a Third Class Medical Certificate
Receive and log ground training
Receive and log a minimum of 40 hours of flight time that include:
20 hours of flight training from an authorized instructor (CFI)
3 hours of cross-country flight training
3 hours of instrument training
3 hours of Practical Test preparation
3 hours of night flight training

10 take-offs and landings to a full stop

1 cross-country flight over 100NM total distance
10 hours of solo flight training
5 hours of solo cross-country time
1 solo cross country of at least 150NM with full stop landings at a minimum of three points
3 take-offs and landings to a full stop at an airport with an operating control tower (ORH meets
this requirement!)
Pass a Pre-Solo Written Exam
Pass a Written Knowledge Test (computerized) – $150
Pass a Practical Flight Test with FAA examiner – $400
Please note that 40 hours is the minimum amount of hours required by the FAA to earn a Private Pilot License. The national average is between 50 to 60 hours. The Worcester Regional Flight Academy makes no guarantee as to the amount of time it will take you to earn your license.

At the Worcester Regional Flight Academy, we make every effort to train you as safely and efficiently as possible in order to save you money. Aviation can be an expensive hobby, but we strive to keep costs down. Below is a table showing our fee structure. We also offer Pilot Financing to qualified pilots. Students are encouraged to either pay per lesson, or they may opt to pay for block time with applicable discount.
